About us

Who we are

Veda Commodities is an agricultural trading company in Lagos and part of Veda Technology Limited. Set up in 2026, we trade between Nigeria, Australia and New Zealand, starting with Nigerian fertiliser for Australian importers.

Preparing the route

Our parent company laid the groundwork through 2026.

  1. Met Dangote Fertiliser’s export team to discuss terms and registration for supplying Australia.

  2. Mapped Australia’s bulk fertiliser importers using the Fertilizer Australia member list.

  3. Built a trade and finance model for each cargo, and planned the first shipment.

  4. Supported the Nigerian High Commission’s engagement with Fertilizer Australia.

Products

What we trade

We take on a trade when we can match a confirmed buyer with a reliable seller. Fertiliser comes first, and we add products as each route is proven.

Our first line Fertiliser

Granular urea

From Nigeria, for importers in Australia and New Zealand.

Why Nigerian urea

Australia buys all of its urea abroad, most of it from the Gulf. Nigeria makes far more than it uses at home, and its cargoes reach Australia without passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

3.8m tonnes

Urea imported by Australia in 2025. It has made none of its own since 2022.

64%

Share of those imports that came from Gulf states.

6.5m+ tonnes a year

Nigeria’s urea production capacity. Demand at home is about 1–1.5m tonnes.

From Nigeria

  • Fertiliser: granular urea
  • Cocoa beans and cocoa products
  • Cashew nuts
  • Sesame seeds
  • Soya beans and soya meal
  • Hibiscus flower

From Australia and New Zealand

  • Wheat
  • Barley and malt
  • Canola
  • Dairy products
  • Cotton

Partnership

Our strategic partner

We work with an integrated agribusiness group that has operated in Africa, Asia and the UAE since 2016. It runs 10 factories and exports cocoa, cashew, sesame, legumes, edible oils and other products to more than 30 countries.

What each of us brings

Our partner

  • Export documentation and shipping experience in more than 30 countries
  • Certified quality systems, including HACCP and Rainforest Alliance
  • Its own freight-forwarding and logistics business
  • The trading record banks look for when financing a cargo

Veda Commodities

  • A dedicated channel for Nigerian granular urea into Australia and New Zealand
  • Direct contact with Dangote Fertiliser’s export team
  • Knowledge of Australia’s bulk fertiliser importers
  • Trade structuring and finance planning for each cargo

For buyers, that means Nigerian urea from outside the Gulf, shipped through an established exporter.

Process

How a trade works

We aim to buy each cargo against a signed sale, with the buyer’s payment secured by a letter of credit or bank guarantee.

  1. Origin port, FOB

    Source

We buy FOB from producers and registered exporters at origin.

  2. Certify

We arrange inspection, quality and biosecurity documents, plus phytosanitary certificates for crops.

  3. Ship

We book bulk vessels or containers between Nigeria and Australia or New Zealand.

  4. Buyer’s port, CFR

    Deliver

We sell CFR to importers, priced against published benchmarks where they exist.

FOB: we take the goods at the origin port. CFR: we deliver to the buyer’s port with freight paid.

Our working practices

  • We confirm specifications, prices and counterparties in writing before we commit.
  • We aim for repeat business with a small number of producers, importers and banks.
